Dream Amsterdam 2008 - After Spencer Tunick in 2007, the renowned composer and visual artist Ryoji Ikeda (Japan 1966) will create art projects for DREAM AMSTERDAM. Ikeda’s hypnotic work plays with human perception through installations, performances, live concerts, recordings and album releases. His work has been exhibited and presented worldwide, including Tate Modern / Queen Elizabeth Hall (London) and Centre Pompidou / Museum of Modern Art (Paris). He has won important prizes, including the Ars Electronica Golden Nica (2001). Ikeda’s commission for Dream Amsterdam Foundation presents his first large-scale artworks for public spaces and marks a new direction in his artistic career. DREAM AMSTERDAM 2008 is realized in collaboration with UK arts production company Forma and takes place within the frame of the Holland Festival. The OPENING EVENT on June 6, is realized in collaboration with Paradiso. Forma represents Ryoji Ikeda worldwide to produce and tour his work.
Deep Screen – Art in Digital Culture: Voorstel tot Gemeentelijke Kunstaankopen 2008 30.05.08 - 30.09.08 Deep Screen – Voorstel voor Gemeentelijke Kunstaankopen 2008 presenteert hedendaagse kunstwerken die sporen van de digitale cultuur in zich dragen. De jury, onder voorzitterschap van gastcurator Andreas Broeckmann, selecteerde 18 kunstenaars uit meer dan 200 inzendingen. Tijdens de tentoonstelling in Stedelijk Museum CS maakt directeur Gijs van Tuyl een keuze van werk dat wordt aangekocht voor de collectie van het museum. De toenemende digitalisering van onze cultuur heeft gevolgen voor de kunsten. We maken snapshots met een mobieltje, kiezen met één blik op het scherm digitale foto’s en creëren onze eigen werkelijkheid met behulp van Photoshop en iPhoto. De invloed op de kunst is te zien aan het tijdelijke karakter van de gebruikte beelden, waarbij proces, herhaling en verandering sleutelwoorden zijn.
De Kunstweek maakt van elke week een kunstweek De Kunstweek biedt kunstliefhebbers het hele jaar door acties, activiteiten, bijeenkomsten, reizen en evenementen. Eén ding is zeker: kunst voegt een dimensie aan je leven toe. Kunst is voor sommigen niets. Dan bestaat kunst niet. Dan heeft men geen weet van kunst. Ondenkbaar? Niet voor miljoenen Nederlanders! Ook en misschien wel juist voor hen, is er de Kunstweek. De Kunstweek zet op talloze manieren Nederlandse beeldende kunst en beeldend kunstenaars in de schijnwerpers. De Kunstweek omvat dan ook talloze verschillende uitgaven, evenementen en festiviteiten waaronder de verkiezing Kunstenaar van het Jaar, het Kunstweek Geschenk, exposities bij aan de Kunstweek deelnemende galerieën, kunstuitlenen en musea, het Kunstweek Boek, de uitgave Wie is Wie in de Kunstwereld en het Kunstweek Bal.

Social networking Web site launched for artists LONDON (Reuters) - A Canadian publisher and philanthropist has launched a new social networking site for artists, underlining the growing influence of the Internet in showcasing and selling art. Louise MacBain said the site, www.myartinfo.com, could be compared to popular networking site www.facebook.com, and allowed artists to showcase their work, chat with each other online and blog. "The idea is that it becomes a global platform for people to go and show their art," said MacBain, a wealthy businesswoman who has invested heavily in the arts in Britain in recent years. "With myartinfo people can post for free their art -- not only visual art, but performing arts, film, poetry, sculpture, fashion, architecture and design." MacBain's company LTB Media has also re-launched www.artinfo.com, an online guide to art and culture, and a new Art Sales Index allowing users to access auction prices and other records for more than 200,000 artists

Christie's sale of Impressionist, Modern and Contemporary art in London fetched $440 million, the second highest ever total for a week of art sales in Europe. All indications are that the spring auction season will be strong if prices are set at reasonable levels. Sotheby's (nyse: BID - news - people ) London auctions also posted excellent results. The contemporary arena provided collectors with extraordinary choices, including a plethora of paintings by today's ''it'' artists, a cabal of young Chinese painters including Liu Ye, Yue Minjun and Chen Zhen. Powerful works by Lucio Fontana, Gerhard Richter, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Egon Schiele all sold well, with some achieving record prices. But it was the sale of Francis Bacon's ''Triptych 1974-77'' for $51.6 million at Christie's that was the highlight of the week. The sale to an anonymous buyer is a landmark moment for the London art market and establishes a record price for any Post-War work of art sold at auction in Europe.
